No. It eliminates the center post on any span up to 18 ft. On rectangular pergolas where the longer side exceeds 18 ft, that side may still need a post; the 18-ft side stays clear. Dealer-installed competitors need posts on any side longer than 15–16 ft. We push that to 18.
No. High snow-load (>30 psf) or high-wind regions may reduce maximum span. Check with a design expert before committing to anything borderline.
